Multiple Clay County Sheriff’s Office staff members were among those recognized for saving lives, rescuing twin toddlers during an armed stand-off and much more.
The Employee Recognition Banquet and Award Ceremony took place 6 p.m. May 2 at Antioch Bible Baptist Church, 800 NE 72nd St., Gladstone, Mo.
Sheriff Will Akin recognized deputies who assisted a family of nine (plus two dogs and a snake) when they became stranded in Clay County after their RV was wrongfully reported stolen in a different state. He also presented the Distinguished Service Medal to seven deputies who confronted an armed, barricaded man and rescued the twin 1-year-olds he was holding hostage last October. This is the first time in more than five years these medals have been awarded.
And for the first time, Sheriff Akin named a Business Partner of the Year and a Citizen of the Year. The Business Partner of the Year was Alterations and Custom Sewing of Excelsior Springs. Clay County Sheriff Citizens Academy Alumni Association President Madonna Boss received the Citizen of the Year award.
The event also served as a way to thank all Sheriff’s Office employees for their professionalism and dedication.
