Street Crimes Unit

The Street Crimes Unit (SCU) is a specialized division dedicated to addressing street-level criminal activity that poses an immediate threat to community safety. This highly trained and proactive team focuses on deterring, disrupting, and dismantling criminal behavior such as gang activity, drug trafficking, illegal firearms possession, and violent offenses.

Working closely with patrol deputies, detectives and community stakeholders, the Street Crimes Unit uses a combination of intelligence-led policing, surveillance operations, and targeted enforcement to identify and apprehend repeat offenders and criminal networks. The unit operates with flexibility and speed, allowing them to respond rapidly to emerging crime trends and high-crime areas.

Key responsibilities of the Street Crimes Unit include:

  • Conducting high-visibility patrols in areas experiencing increased criminal activity
  • Investigating gang-related violence and organized street crime
  • Targeting illegal narcotics distribution and trafficking
  • Recovering illegal firearms and reducing gun violence
  • Collaborating with federal, state, and local partners for joint operations
  • Engaging in community outreach to build trust and gather actionable intelligence

The SCU plays a vital role in the Sheriff's Office's mission to ensure safer streets and stronger neighborhoods. By focusing on the root causes of street-level crime and working in partnership with the community, the unit is committed to creating a safer environment for all residents.
