The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a very serious-injury crash involving a motorcyclist that occurred near the Smithville Dam last night.

Deputies were dispatched to the wreck about 7:40 p.m. Sunday on Litton Way near DD Highway, next to Smithville Lake. When they arrived, they found a Chevrolet Cruze had struck a 34-year-old man on a Harley Davidson motorcycle. The motorcycle driver had life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital, where he remains in very critical condition. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Cruze remained on scene and is under investigation for driving while intoxicated. He is in custody while detectives and the Traffic Safety Unit continue their investigation.
